Challenge Coin Displays

The Challenge Coin was introduced by the military some one hundred years ago. It was developed to instill unit pride, increase esprit de corps, and as a reward for hard work and dedication to excellence. The law enforcement community and other public service entities have since adopted this time-honored tradition.

New visitors to my page may not know I have had a long career in law enforcement. I started as a Pennsylvania game warden, retired from there, became a Tennessee police officer and part-time boating officer for the Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency. During that time, I lost my law enforcement officer son to complications from injuries sustained in a line-of-duty crash. I retired from law enforcement on his birthday in 2018 after thirty-one years.

I was never a collector of challenge coins or any law enforcement memorabilia for that matter. When Zach died, I received a treasure trove of coins from officers all over North America. Rather than leave them in a box, I wanted to display them in some manner. I thought it was only fitting to create displays in the silhouette of the two states in which Zach and I served the citizens.

Gobbler Knob Longrifles llc has partnered with Terre Guard Woodworks to add state silhouette challenge coin displays to its list of items being created here. Any state or country silhouette can be created. The displays are created by hand using hardwood and a cast resin Thin Line. Available options include: Thin Line color of your choice (cerulean blue, firebrick red, or emerald green) black or natural wood stain, .40 or 5.56 caliber casings or fire axes as coin rests, and your choice of wall-mounting or desktop display, depending upon the shape of the display.

STD – Standard size is up to 18″ high x 18″ wide

OS – Any dimension greater than 18″.  

WM – Wall Mount is included.

BM – Base Mount.

GITD – Glow In The Dark resin.
