Three Stars of Tennessee Award Video

September 13, 2016: Three Stars of Tennessee Award and First Responder Ceremony, Nashville, Tennessee –  Three Stars of Tennessee award honorees are those who gave their lives in the line of duty, and the First Responder awards ceremony has been a long-standing tradition in memory of the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks.  My son, Zach was posthumously honored for his sacrifice in the line of duty and I was humbled to accept this award on his behalf from the Governor of Tennessee, Bill Haslam.

The satisfaction that comes from a successful hunt brings a universal thrill, but it’s even more thrilling when you built the gun used for the harvest. That’s certainly the case for Gainsboro’s Rick Larnerd. As Wild Side Guide Terry Bulger found out, this former Pennsylvania Wildlife Conservation Officer has brought his badge, passion and talent for the outdoors to Tennessee. From show 3011. Coping with Grief: Surviving the Unexpected Loss of a Child

Just as children do not come with instructions for their raising, there are no instructions for how to deal with the grief which consumes us when we lose one. How can one survive the crippling effects of this tragedy? The enormity of that tragedy is compounded when more than one child is unexpectedly lost. As you read my story of the loss of two of my three children, I hope this survivor’s perspective will help to shed light on a very complex and personally-unique emotion and serve as an inspiration for others experiencing the same grief.

“For most of us, knowledge comes largely through sight and yet, in viewing our natural world, we are often blind to much of the beauty around us.
As prominent conservationist, Rachel Carson, once observed, ‘One way to open our eyes is to ask ourselves, what if I had never seen this before? What if I knew that I would never see it again’” Lance Hoffman, 1995

“I give my pledge as an American to save and faithfully to defend from waste the natural resources of my country; its air soils and minerals; its forests waters and wildlife.”

I took that pledge in 1987.  I was blessed beyond measure to have had a career which rewarded me so richly.  This video is a snapshot of my forty-week training adventure to become a member of the Thin Green Line as a Pennsylvania Wildlife Conservation Officer.

Presentation To Governor Bill Lee, September 24, 2021

“In May of 2021, I attended a ceremony in Nashville, Tennessee which honored the  ultimate sacrifice made by Tennessee law enforcement officers while in the performance of their duty.  My son, Zach, was among those honored.
Governor Bill Lee gave the keynote address.  As I listened to his message and watched him fight back his own emotions, I was deeply touched.  This wasn’t a politician paying lip service to those of us gathered.  His emotion was raw and genuine.  His heart-felt words really resonated with me.  I decided then and there I wanted to do something to show just how much I appreciate his unwavering support of law enforcement.  I knew Governor Lee is a turkey hunter.  I couldn’t think of a more fitting token than a turkey box call.  I made this one-of-a-kind decorative call and display case as a token of my appreciation.
Amidst the grandeur of the Tennessee state captiol on September 24, 2021, I was honored to be able to personally present this token of my appreciation for his support of law enforcement to Governor Bill Lee.”
