Transitional

Rifles built during the middle of the 18th Century were short, heavy, and appeared somewhat clumsy when compared to those built during the “Golden Age” of the Pennsylvania longrifle. As the 1750’s melted into the 1760’s, rifle builders began to pare down the profile of their rifles. Still bearing the nuances of their Germanic forefathers but continually showing the promise of their evolution into the slender piece of art so coveted today, these rifles are often referred to as, “Transitional.”

This rifle, stocked in curly maple with brass furniture, has wonderful accuracy and ease of aiming due to its cast-off of ¼” and long sight plane, which is provided by the 42″ swamped barrel.

Pricing ~ The base price for my Transitional rifles is $2,750. This includes a 38” swamped Rice barrel (caliber of your choice), appropriate lock (right or left hand), nicely-figured stock (curly maple, black walnut, or cherry available) single fancy trigger, side plate, muzzle cap, and remaining furniture (brass, German silver, iron available). This does not include any other inlays, carving, or engraving. These are available at an additional cost.  I require a deposit of $1,400 to secure a spot on my build calendar.  It generally takes approximately 4 weeks to complete once I begin work. The balance is due upon completion of the gun. I ship my guns in a wooden crate via FedEx and insure them for their value. The cost of shipping is in addition to the cost of the gun and typically runs between $175.00 to $200.00.  I appreciate your interest in my work. Thank you for considering me to build your gun. I’m looking forward to a discussion about what I can build for you.
